Organisational Development

Increasing your organisation’s sustainability

Organisations can always improve both what they do and how they do it. At its simplest, organisational development is action that makes an organisation and its services better. It’s about responding positively to change and seizing the opportunities that change offers to improve systems, structures, staff and services. Bath and Main Associates have a proven track record of working with organisations, enabling them to respond positively and productively to opportunities.

Reviewing Your Organisation & Finances

When was the last time you reviewed your organisation’s governing document? Or its policies? Or its finances?

It is good practice for charities to review their structures and procedures on a regular basis to ensure they are still fit for purpose. Having someone like Bath and Main Associates, who can come in from the outside and cast a fresh look at what is happening, is very beneficial. The trustees can be reassured that the charity is being run as effectively and efficiently as possible. We can look at future sustainability options as well.

Team Building

Could the teams in your organisation work together better and achieve more?

Bath and Main Associates have developed and delivered away days for senior and middle management staff. They focus on being enjoyable and non-threatening. They emphasise how a team can understand its members better as well as people learning more about themselves. Ultimately, the away days are about any team being more effective, delivering more together. We can also develop and deliver bespoke management development programmes for senior staff in your organisation.

Marketing and Communication Strategies

How good is your marketing? Do you reach the right customers and the right consumers?

Many charities are now in a competitive marketplace and understanding how to “sell” their services to an increasingly cost and quality influenced client group is important. Bath and Main Associates can support your organisation going through the process of thinking through how you market more effectively and what communication channels are needed to ensure that messages are heard.

HR Advice

Managing and developing your staff can be one of the most rewarding parts of any job. However, where there are people, there will be HR issues.

For many Chief Executives, the complexities of HR law are challenging and the consequences to your charity for getting it wrong are significant. Bath and Main Associates have specialist advisers in HR who know and understand the voluntary sector. They can be called upon either on a case-by-case basis or linked to a particular piece of organisational work that has implications for your organisation’s staff.

Consultation Processes

Could your organisation benefit from knowing more about the views of its users, staff and volunteers or partner organisations?

Actively listening to staff and volunteers about their concerns and ideas about new projects or services or partnerships is beneficial to the change process. Bath and Main Associates can assist in that process by organising meetings, facilitated groups and one to one discussions in a confidential manner ensuring that the issues are understood and recognised.

Crisis and Interim Management

All organisations go through cycles of changes and this can mean there are times when there appears to be (or is!) a crisis e.g. a charity without a Chief Executive and no one else to temporarily hold that key position.

Simon and Hilary have had direct experience of managing large and small charities for agreed periods of time whilst the issues are resolved and providing interim management and support. Usually this involves working closely with the Chair and Board to agree a plan of action, identify funding if necessary and continue to line manage the relevant staff.
